A classy note

After our endorsement of her opponent ran earlier this week, Denise Jones sent this note out toJonesmug2 supporters (and was kind enough to share it with us):

Dear Supporters,

As I have gotten up early once again this morning to work on my campaign, I
am greeted by the sight that The State Newspaper has endorsed John Scott.
I do appreciate the newspaper interviewing me.  However, with only an hour
interview, they really did not get to see the real Denise Jones.  You
know me best!!  You know that my very best qualities are that I am a big
picture person, see things to the end and passionately care about making a
difference in this district and state.
Today, as a breast cancer survivor, I will take the walk and hold my head
up high.  I am still very fortunate that I found my cancer early and want to
help others do the same.  In July, I completed my 5 years and hopefully, will
not have a reoccurance.  But, who is guaranteed tomorrow?  This episode in my
life really made me understand what   is important.
So, not receiving this endorsement is only a bump in the road and drives me
harder.  So, please hold your head up and lets take this to the finish line.. I
still plan on winning!!!!
I can not say this enough.. Thank you so much for everything that you have
done.

Sincerely,
Denise Jones

P.S.  Your support will never be forgotten!!

Jones
Republican Candidate For State House District 77

Hometown Values.
Conservative Ideals.

Anybody who can get up that early, read an endorsement of her opponent and then write a classy note such as this, without a trace of malice, is a real lady. Those of you who still struggle to meet this blog’s standards (and you know who you are), could learn a few things from her.

May God continue to send his healing grace upon her.

Is she running for breast cancer awareness director? I find myself wondering what Hometown Values are in this instance.

  2. Brad Warthen

Come on, Wally, it was nice. Most people can’t resist getting in some kind of whine, gripe or moan when they’ve just read an endorsement of their opponent.
And I’m guessing that “Hometown Values” probably means things like being a good loser and writing nice notes. And those are good things.
Besides, my wife recently passed the five-year mark from when she was diagnosed, thank God, and I know what an important milestone that is. I don’t blame Ms. Jones a bit for wanting to shout it to the world.

  3. Randy Ewart

Nice post. I like to see a politician who avoids the party first at all cost mentality.
People like her see things in this world now most of us never will.
    More stories like this Brad!

Politics is not about winning. Public servants who don’t understand that don’t understand democracy. Politics, when practiced well, is about candidates putting thoughtful platforms before the voters and allowing them to choose which they believe is best. Once elected, the office holder has a duty to keep the promises he or she made to the voters.
The dreadful mistake that so many candidates make is sacrificing every shred of their integrity in a win-at-all costs campaign. And if they do win, it’s downhill from there.
I don’t know Denise Jones but her response is refreshing.

I apologize. My bad. I guess I’m just caught up in the who knew what when insanity.

For the record: I knew nothing, ever.

Thank you so much for the kind comments. I believe that actions speak louder than words. I am attaching an editorial that my daughter shared with me. She has sent it to The Country Chronicle. I don’t believe that she sent it to you.. She is my “real”
    hero!!
    Dear Editor,
As a voter in SC House District 77, I am also concerned about obtaining the very best leadership for our community. I was born and raised here. As an adult, I have been a voting resident in this community for at least 8 years. I truly love this town. Has John Scott been the best leader for this community? I don’t think so.
Blythewood’s own, Denise Jones, embodies what Blythewood represents. She is family oriented and down to earth, as are most residents in Blythewood. As a mother, she raised us to be strong, successful, caring and loving people. It was important to her that wee went to church every Sunday and had dinner together every night as a family. She believes that education is extremely important and always took an ownership role to insure our success. My brother and I are both products of Richland School District 2. We attended Blythewood Elementary, Bethel-Hanberry Middle, Summit Parkway Middle, and Spring Valley High School. We continued on to both receive bachelor degrees from in-state colleges
Denise Jones strongly believes that community service is important. She encouraged me to participate in Salkehatchie Summer Service for many years sponsored by the United Methodist Church to repair homes during the summer for the less fornuate. She is still very actitive in the community volunteering her time to tutor children, attend community meetings, and to help lead an adult bible study for older adults. Also as a daughter, sister and mother of Type 1 Diabetics, she is very passionate about helping find a cure through fundraising activities with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. This is especially close to my heart since I was diagnosised with diabetes as a child. My mother had such responsibility to take care of me, check my blood sugar, give me insulin injections, and insure I have proper medical care. You can only imagine how difficult and heart breaking it is to have a child with this disease. She did a wonderful job and has raised me to be very independent.
Finally, Denise Jones is a brilliant accountant and manager of money. As a Financial Director for the Department of Health and Environmental Control for South Carolina, she had tremendous responsibility to insure that the bills were paid timely and that programs were properly funded. I know that if she were a representative for our district, she would work to make sure all South Carolinian’s hard-earned tax dollars weren’t wasted.
We need to put Blythewood’s Own, Denise Jones, in the State House. Who else better to ask than the residents of Blythewood? So, please make every effort to go to the polls on November 7th. A vote for my mother, Denise Jones, is a vote for a better future for South Carolina.
    Sincerely,

I have been really blessed.. I have a wonderful husband of 34 years, a 31 year old son who is a Citadel graduate, a daughter-in-law who is a lawyer who has given us a precious grandson and a granddaughter on the way, a wonderful daughter who has not let her Juvenile Diabetes conquer her and her husband who is a 2004 Purple Heart recipient from Afganistan.

Someone wrote above that that don’t know Denise Jones but her comments were refreshing, well I met Denise Jones at a function in Columbia and as a African-American right from the moment of meeting her, I knew she would be the right person for her district. Unfortunately, my husband I are not in her disterict and can not vote for her, but believe her integrity and character is what South Carolinian in HOuse District 77th needs. We gave her a financial donation because we believe she’s best for her district, so I would encourage everyone to please go to the polls and make Denise Jones your next representative.

  9. Diana Wickenhauser

I am a life long resident of Blythewood. I remember the days before growth made the area chic and fashionable.
What are home town values? If you have to ask, that speaks to your character. It also speaks to what you deem acceptable – status quo. I’m sorry for you and your small mindedness.
Why are so many clamoring to move into the Blythewood area? The community. Denise Jones does embody the spirit of our community. Progress with heart and courage to face whatever the path of life brings to our door with dignity and integrity.
We need more leaders with these qualities. Career politicians are only out for personal gains, not what is best for the community. Denise Jones is not a party line woman. She truly wants what is best for all.
She deserves respect, as well as the vote of every constituent in this district.

  10. Patra Sullivan

Denise Jones, and her husband David, have been my friends for almost 30 years. She is one of the most loyal friends anyone could have. She was raised in a Christian home, her father a retired Methodist minister. Though not “born and bred” in Blythewood, as a Methodist minister’s daughter, she moved from one small South Carolina town to another. She knows what rural and growing is all about. Her moral standards are much higher than most politicians I know of, and I was at first skeptical of her entering the political arena because I felt that she is too honest. But isn’t that what we need? I will be proud to say, at the end of these elections that Denise is my friend because I know that she will represent the district that I live in with the utmost integrity.

  11. Madora B. Holder

I am Denise’s mother. Her father and I are very proud of her and we have tried to
always teach our children to be good citizens and good Christians. We have always wanted them to be independent and
think for themselves and to be God-fearing
individuals and good community people and we feel that they have been. I can not vote
for her as I live in Spartanburg,SC. I think
a vote for Denise will be a good vote!

  12. Debra Metze

Of course, those of us who have grown up with Denise know about her integrity,
work ethics, morale values, commitment to family, friends, and community. We have been involved and wittnessed her ability to pursue endeavors and succeed. We realize the importance of her qualities of life being a part of Our State Government.
How could anyone know all of these things in an hour interview?
To endorse a candidate one must witness capabilities, interview those that have and /or review records. That might be hard to do in an hour.
I support Denise Jones because I trust her ability to make knowledgeable decisions that will offer those of us living in this District the leadership we need.

  13. George Smeldley

Posting to a Blog with bogus credentials does not make it a truth. Garrett Gay claims to be Denise Jones’s campaign manager. Garrett Gay is a 14 year old boy from a Charleston and although he may have good intentions he is on a bad track when he lies about his role in Denise’s campaign. He was not ever Denise’s manager in any way. Let’s keep the record straight and defeat lies spread for self aggrandizement.

  14. Garrett Gay

    George Smeldley,
I don’t know who you are or what your intentions are here but you could not be more wrong. I was indeed Denise’s campaign manager in her 2006 campaign for state house.
If you still don’t beleive me you can e-mail me at my offical campaign e-mail address, garrett@denisejones2006.com.
    FYI, i’m 17, not 14.
