Mayor Bob’s happy with his decision

CobleWalk

Forgot to share this with you over the weekend, but I remembered it when I was cleaning some pictures off my phone.

At the Walk for Life Saturday morning, I heard a voice behind me say, “Well I read on your blog that you would be here…,” and I looked around and it was Bob Coble. As you probably know, his wife Beth is the hostess of the Walk.

Anyway, we walked together for a few minutes, and talked about various things in the news. But the most relevant thing to share was his answer to how he’s adjusting to the fact that he’s not going to be mayor anymore after next year.

He said he’s doing great with it. He hadn’t known for sure, when he was making the decision, how he would feel about it once it was done and too late to change his mind. But as it turns out, he’s loving it.

He can’t be any happier than the rest of us with his decision. I’m just sad he didn’t make this decision years ago.

Mayor Coble was the creation of power brokers – unheard of until the money boys chose him for their hand puppet.

Now Coble has become the poster boy for all the corruption and waste in Columbia government, so they need a new mascot.

Steve Benjamin has been chosen, and Coble was being stabbed in the back. Council members regularly met in secret, illegally, to formulate their agendas, and Benjamin met with them some of those times.

Warren Bolton of THE STATE dropped his crusade against pay day lenders the minute black candidate Steve Benjamin filed to run for mayor. Benjamin earned over $100,000 a year as a board member for Advance America.

The new Forbes magazine ranks the best small, medium and large cities in which to find a job.

Columbia has plummeted out of the top 100.

80% of the best cities are in states with no income tax. 50% of the top 10 in each category are in Texas.

Now we learn, after the fact, that Coble and the city council have contracted to spend over $1,000,000 on a marketing plan for to tourism.

So far, they have spent $600,000 on a brainstorming session which yielded no more a handful of locals could come up with in an hour at the Waffle House.
