The “Hey Jude” map

Stan Dubinsky, purveyor of cool stuff he finds on the Web, shared this today. As he observed,

Would that all songs were so organized and logical. – S

I don’t know; maybe they are. I haven’t tried mapping any. But this one’s one of the best, organized or not.

The “don’t” lines can be matched to their following lines because of the internal rhymes.

    bad/sad, afraid/made
    and down/found

Follwed by the “heart/start,” “begin/skin” lines of unequal meter.

    A fascinating bit of poetry.

Did you know that many Beatles tunes are covered by jazz musicians often b/c of their interesting chord structures, and that said chord structures arose b/c the lads didn’t know proper music theory–no twelve bar blues or I VI II V (Heart and Soul), say. They just noodled around on their guitars, moving a finger or two on the frets and heard a “cool” chord change and wrote it down. Voila–instant genius.

Love the Hey Jude map, Brad. Thought I’d better let you know I stole it for one of my Facebook albums! (With proper credits, of course…)
