If you sent me e-mail today, please send it again (sheesh!)

Sorry for the inconvenience, but if you sent me e-mail today, please wait about an hour and send it again. I’ve received nothing since 11:27 p.m. Tuesday.

I’m assuming this is because my mailbox is overcrowded. Every couple of weeks, I have to waste an hour or two of my life slowly, tediously deleting scores or hundreds of messages. This takes so long because, after about five months now, my Outlook is STILL not functioning (and anyone who can offer me help on this would be appreciated — and yes, I’ve tried deleting everything and reinstalling, over and over), so I have to do in on Web mail, and just refreshing the page once, or going from one inadequate 15-message page to the next, takes forever for some reason. The slowness of Web mail is the main reason I don’t clean house daily.

Another great thing about Web mail — it does NOT send you a notice telling you you’re running out of room, or let you know that’s the problem when it does happen. So I’m operating on assumption here.

Soon, I should have deleted enough to make room for whatever you sent, so please send again. Wait until noon EST at least, though.

    Dude–
    First, use Gmail–very fast.
Second, Outlook is considered to be a virus by many techies. There are many better options.
Third, have you called my wizard nephew yet? If he can’t fix it, it can’t be fixed.

But… my address isn’t a gmail address. I have one of those, but it’s not the one I’ve given out to tout le monde, nor is it the one I WANT people to use…

Outlook, when it works (which it always did when I worked at the paper), is awesome. It’s a seamless way to weave together e-mail, calendar, contacts, my laptop and my Blackberry. I’ve got about 2,000 contacts — not just email addresses, but multiple phone numbers, addresses, notes on each — that I’m accustomed to having at my fingertips in Outlook. I’m used to doing things like, for instance, taking the directions to an even from an e-mail and pasting them into that event on my calendar, and then having it available on my Blackberry. I NEED IT TO START WORKING AGAIN.

Sorry. Didn’t mean to shout. E-mail me your nephew’s number again.

I still use outlook. Is that bad? But then again, I didn’t get a blu-ray until a couple of years ago.

My office still has a fax machine that we use on a regular basis. Total blast from the past, right?

You can use gmail to harvest all your other accounts. Then all your mail goes to gmail and once you read it there, from anywhere, it remains read, and you get a huge account size, so no need to prune old messages. Go under settings, under the Accounts tab.
Emailing number now…hope your email can get it. 😉

Outlook AND Blackberry??? That’s like smearing peanut butter all over your naked body and then leaping into a tar pit.

I’d tell you to ditch all that, grab an Android smartphone, and roll all your vitals into Google apps ASAP…but you Outlook addicts are incorrigible!

Kate – Anyone who uses the term “techie” is lucky to be able to turn their computer on so there goes your IT credibility. That’s like calling a lawyer an “ambulance chaser” and then explain that you are saying it in the good way.

Having worked in IT for nearly 30 years in both private and public sectors, and having seen and used both Outlook and GMail, my professional and multiple, advanced certified opinion, I’ll stick with Outlook/Microsoft Exchange. If people knew 10% of what goes on at Google they’d have trouble sleeping at night. But they’re so nice to give all of us “free” stuff to use.

A wise man once said, “Nothing is free”.

I’ll take an iPhone over any SmartPhone. And I hate Apple, but the iPhone is the best thing to come out in the past 5 years.
