Guess I should start paying attention. Sigh.

Just got this from Politico:

ARLINGTON, Va. – POLITICO announced today the launch of 2012 LIVE, a new section of its website designed to provide moment-by-moment coverage of the race for the Republican nomination for the presidency, as well as President Barack Obama’s campaign for a second term.

2012 LIVE offers a huge volume of information on the likely candidates with continuous updates on where the candidates are on the campaign trail, who they’re recruiting as advisers and staff, where their money is being raised and what is being said about them in the media.

The section dives deep into the four states crucial to winning the GOP nomination. With ‘Early State Insider’ subpages dedicated to Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina, POLITICO brings readers straight to where the candidates are making their key moves. Robust partnerships with leading newspapers in these states – The Des Moines RegisterNew Hampshire Union LeaderLas Vegas Sun and the (Charleston, S.C.) Post and Courier – provide added insight and analysis for POLITICO readers.

“2012 LIVE is based on our belief that political junkies cannot get enough news and analysis on the election.” said POLITICO Executive Editor Jim VandeHei. “We think there needs to be more velocity and information – not less. No other news organization will be able to match our early and sustained commitment to covering the 2012 campaign.”…

Sigh. Guess I should start paying attention.

At this stage before 2008, I was pumped about it. We had W. exiting the stage, and the prospect of putting all that strife behind us, and fairly exciting fields of candidates on both sides coming through SC — Obama, McCain, Clinton, Giuliani, Edwards, Romney, Biden, Huckabee… note that I’m not saying I like all those candidates (y’all know better); I’m just saying that at the time, the nation’s prospects seemed interesting, and those candidacies made politics worth following…

Now, of course, there’s zilch going on the Democratic side, and I’m already getting sort of jaded on the GOP field.

Maybe it’ll get better. Must give it a chance. And the first step will be paying attention…

Doesn’t the prospect of a Palin candidacy get the old political juices flowing? I sure hope she runs. The entertainment value of it would be worth risk of her actually winning.

No. In fact, she would top the list of people who make me tired to think about 2012.

Of course, I look at it differently from the way you do. Me, I’m thinking, “Who would be an acceptable, even positive, alternative to Obama?” Because for me, there’s no other point.

I guess, once again, the term is “jaded.” I don’t really appreciate politics as entertainment the way I did in my youth. If I want entertainment, I watch a movie. Or I do what I’m doing as I type this — listening to my “Me First and the Gimme-Gimmes” station on Pandora… No, I DON’T want to listen to “Blink 182,” Pandora! I want awesome, pumped-up punk covers from Me First! That’s why I created this station. What’s wrong with you, Pandora?!?!?

I’ve already gotten my first presidential primary poll call of the campaign. We’re going to hear a lot from these folks, until after the SC primary when we go back to no one on the planet caring what we think.

After watching our Appeaser in Chief for 2 years I’m not really sure why I bother to vote. Seems like they all end up as war hawks, economic coservatives and lukewarm backers of the proper social agenda. So why not enjoy the political process for it’s entertainment value.

Or you could revamp your blog into something more commercial–lie first there was the Daily Digress, which begat The Shop Tart, which was so much more financially compelling, it killed the Daily Digress.

How about a beer blog– “Pub Cheese”?

    CHEESE?

I’m reminded of an old Far Side cartoon, in which a dog opens up his sandwich to look inside, and thinks, “Chicken bones! She IS trying to kill me…” (Tried and tried to find that cartoon online to link to, but failed…)

Early exhaustion. It would be helpful to think of deliniated campauigns. No more than six months. In reality a week would be sufficient to learn, if they were honestly stated (another wish), what their intentions were. The other two years is merely repetition.

I know you’re allergic to dairy, but one was looking for some catchy pun like “The Shop Tart.” Obvi, since I am not a Mad Man, I failed, but surely you could come up with a pithy name!
