Scenes from the Walk for Life

First, my apologies — I didn’t organize a blog team to walk this year, and I’m sorry about that. It got away from me. No excuses.

But I registered at the last minute myself, and walked with my wife (the 10-year breast cancer survivor), the elder of my two sons, and two granddaughters. One thing about having a big family, you can put together a pickup team pretty quickly.

There were about 7,100 others walking with us (it seemed like more). The weather was beautiful — a bit chilly at first, but not once you got started — and the event raised half a million for the Palmetto Health Breast Center, according to The State.

Below are some views of the Walk.

Here’s a key to the pictures:

    1. Samuel Tenenbaum, head of Palmetto Health Foundation, the guy in charge of it all, looking not so pretty in pink. He was looking for wife Inez, head of the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Columbia City Councilwoman Belinda Gergel, somewhere in the crowd.

    2. My old friend and colleague Mike Fitts showed up, apparently in the mistaken belief that the Cubbies were playing.

    3. Jennifer Harding, also formerly of The State, as the crowd takes off to a chilly start. See Jennifer for all your real estate needs, even though she doesn’t advertise on the blog, which she should.

    4. Tim Dominick, who actually still WORKS at The State, covering the event with some awesome-looking cameras. See his shots from the Walk here.

    5. Her name was Belle, and she really didn’t like my suddenly getting down into her face to take this.

    6. Spidey is there every year, although I never see him actually walking, and there are no skyscrapers along the route for convenient web-slinging. He does like to pose with the walkers, though. He, too, is rumored to be a newspaper photographer.

Tim Dominick is an old Aiken High School classmate. He was the drum major. He also took amazing photos back then, as well, including his annual shot from under a jumping horse at the Steeplechase.

    A darn nice guy!
