Nothing like openness and transparency, eh?

I had missed this local news clip, but alert correspondent Burl Burlingame, way out in our Honolulu bureau, brought it to my attention.

Nothing like openness in an elected official, huh? Here’s the WACH story about what you see above…

Her statement essentially telling the committee what to conclude before they ever started investigating is certainly disturbing.

Did she really think this was an OK thing to do, or did she know it was wrong and was just too stupid to cover her tracks, or is it that she just thinks the rules don’t apply to her?

I don’t know which answer upsets me more. None of the options are very good.

@ scout–I think she thinks everything she does is the right way to do things. She shows no signs of any kind of self-questioning. It’s like all those people who love to say, “it’s just plain old common sense” to any number of things that I find debatable or capable of different points of view. She shoots from the hip and that’s her story and she’s sticking to it.

And what’s new about Gov. Haley here? She was all that before elections, is that now, and will continue to be that for as long as she can get away with it.

Regarding transparency, does lawyer Vincent Sheheen carry a handgun like many SC lawyers?

P&C: Do you own a gun, whether it’s a handgun or other type of firearm?

    Sheheen: “Yes, several.”

Haley: “I don’t own a gun, but I am a CWP (concealed weapons permit) holder, and I’ll tell you why I don’t own a gun, because this is part of the problem. We have so many regulations in this state, still as a CWP holder you have to go through SLED checks, you have to go through fingerprinting, yet there are still places you still can’t carry. So I could carry here and then go across the street and be breaking the law. It’s very hard to be a CWP holder and be within the rights of the law. I think we need to make sure that our regulations aren’t so strict that CWP holders can’t carry and really protect themselves.”

We still don’t know about Vincent, do we? My how transparent he is!

@ Kathryn – You’re right on with your assessment. I genuinely believe she doesn’t think she’s done anything wrong.

Unfortunately, there are still a whole lot of people in the state who, incredibly, would agree with her.

    To paraphrase:

Statler: “There’s nothing like a little openness and transparency.”

Waldorf: “And that was nothing like them.”
