Yo, Columbia: Does this look familiar to you at all?

It was kind of weird that, on the same day that I attended the presentation on Bull Street, I saw this Tweet out of Aiken:

Does that aerial view look at all familiar to you? It does to me. Here’s a story providing background on the project in question.

Sort of makes me think there’s a Music Man going from town to town in SC, singing, “Yeah, we’ve got baseball, right here in River City…

Well, it is at least a TIF and not just a general obligation!

The CSRA does not have the level of varsity sports Cola has, so it makes a bit more sense for them.

Having ties to Augusta, and knowing their team that has played at Lake Olmstead for years was moving across the river to North Augusta, I was amused to see someone elsewhere had included Augusta in the list of cities uplifted by professional baseball. Meanwhile, here in the Famously Hot town, the man who has kept alive pro and semi-pro baseball, Mike Shahanahan, is looking to Lexington for a new home. Why no one bothered to have Mike involved in the baseball discussions in Columbia is passing strange, but a prediction is that his Lexington-based version will prosper compared to the mayor’s vision.

Meanwhile, a mental health facility dealing with sexually abused children likely will be the first to be displaced by the new and beautiful Hughesville — and a good question is where the money will come from to continue an essential service. It is a local endeavor serving a statewide audience, and far more attention needs to be focused on the consequences ensuing from bringing professional ball to Columbia.
