A busy day in official misbehavior so far in the Midlands

The following has happened so far:

  1. Nikki Haley removes Kelvin Washington from Richland County Council — The only way this was going to happen. Moral turpitude is mentioned.Washington_Kelvin
  2. His mother-in-law, Bernice Scott, filed for the seat — She doesn’t wait around, does she? I mean, heaven forfend that the seat should fall out of the family’s hands for a moment. Poor Bernice, having to give up retirement to hang onto power. Life can be hard.
  3. Donnie Myers to retire — He cites his age, not the latest DUI charge.
  4. McMaster ordered to repay excess campaign contributions — Kind of dull compared to the other items, but it seemed to fit the theme today.

I agree with Doug, I’ve lived in this state long enough to realize that 99% of those holding a political office are corrupt, the other 1% are newly elected and just learning.

It would be more appropriate for Nikki Haley to also remove Myers from office rather than allow him to teeter on through the year – that’s more than 9 months away.

    Messages matter.

Yeah — of course that’s a little harder for Nikki politically, Donnie being a Lexington County Republican.

But in her defense — this is a charge, not a conviction. And she did URGE him to quit…

I thought about making the headline “Adventures in Turpitude.”

But Henry’s offense, for one, doesn’t exactly sink to that level…

It’s lower than you appear to think. Not moral turpitude maybe, but not behavior we should ever condone by office holders – past or present.

In addition to Scott, two others have filed to run for that same County Council seat.

This will be a fun site to peruse between now and the end of the month.

I should clarify that the filings I described were for the regularly scheduled election for that seat, and maybe not the special election. Local news reports I’ve seen have mentioned 2 of the 3 listed on the candidate-tracking website as running for the seat.
