OK, Trav, this is kind of silly

This came in from SC Democrats over the weekend:

A PORNSTAR, THE PRESIDENT, AND HENRY MCMASTER
Henry McMaster rolled out the red carpet for President Trump, will he do the same for the president’s mistress this weekend?330px-Stormy_Daniels_2010
Columbia, SC — Over the last several days, the Wall Street Journal revealed that President Trump’s lawyer used a Delaware corporation to pay hush money to pornstar Stormy Daniels weeks before the 2016 election to keep her from revealing an affair she had with the president while he was married to his third wife, First Lady Melania Trump. This weekend, Stormy Daniels will be visiting Greenville for a public appearance in which she will certainly talk about the president.
“Henry McMaster and Catherine Templeton have gone above and beyond to associate themselves with everything related to President Trump,” said South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Trav Robertson. “From what we know about the president, Stormy is bound to be his fourth wife and I can’t believe that Henry and Catherine would miss the opportunity to seek her endorsement. It’s the perfect time for them to talk about their South Carolina values as she kicks off what she is calling her ‘Make America Horny Again’ tour in Greenville.”

Yes, the thing about the porn star is a part of the general pattern of sleaze (along with the “Access Hollywood” tape, the multiple allegations of sexual assault, the behavior running beauty pageants, the casinos, professional wrestling and reality TV) of the most unfit man ever to hold our highest office.

And yes, wrapping yourself in the Trump mantle means wrapping yourself in sleaze. It’s a legitimate point, as far as it goes.

But this effort to be cute kind of misses the mark. Perhaps it’s the “Stormy is bound to be his fourth wife” part that throws it off….

By the way… it seems that any time a “porn star” pops up in the news, they look really fake: the makeup, the big, blonde hair, the apparently modified body parts.

    It’s all kind of off-putting.

Why, in MY day, we had universally appealing, wholesome, girl-next-door pornography.

Give us somebody like Bettie Page!

OK, just kidding. I’m not that old. Bettie was sort of before my time.

And she was more of the cheesecake school rather that full-scale porn — although she did get a bit kinky in some of those pictures.

But she’s a name I could think of and she makes my point: Real is more sexy than the blow-up doll look…

In Trav’s defense, the state party DOES put out more substantive nuts-and-bolts releases, such as this one this morning:

It’s time to buckle up, 2018 is here in full force and we’re going to need you to help organize each and every day.

The Republicans in D.C. made that particularly clear Friday at midnight when they chose not to work with Democrats and closed the government. If you control the White House, the House, and the Senate, it is your most basic responsibility to pass a budget. The Trump administration has been doing everything in its power to lower our expectations, but this is a new low for the Republican Party. At the very least, it shows a lack of compassion for the American people on the part of Mitch McConnell and the Republican Senate majority. We trust the Democrats can lead the country toward a compromise soon.

With the shutdown as a backdrop, Democrats were engaged across South Carolina over the weekend. In many counties, precinct reorganization got underway, which is the first step in our convention process. If you don’t know when yours is, reach out to your County Party Chair using our directory! They’re ready to hear from you and get you involved. Saturday was also the second Women’s March, which drew thousands in Charleston and millions nationwide. On a day when the Tea Party convention in Myrtle Beach didn’t draw 150 people, Democrats turned out in droves! If you’ve got pictures from either the precinct reorganization in your county or the Women’s March, share with us on Twitter @SCDP — we’d love to see all the hard work that you’re doing.

If you’d like to roll that momentum right into Monday, the Black Women’s Caucus is having their first meeting tonight at the SCDP Headquarters (915 Lady St, Suite 111, Columbia). We’d love to have you join us and turn that energy into action. Details below!

Be sure to join your local Parties and candidates for all of their events this week. We’ll have more precinct reorganizations this Saturday too, so be sure to check in with your County Party folks about details for your meeting.

Also, before we go, we need to share the sad news of the passing of two of our Democratic family members: Reid Anderegg, former Chair of the Charleston County Party, and Hayes F. Samuels Jr, the Coroner of Clarendon County. We’re going to miss both of these wonderful Democrats and the passion that they brought to our Party.

Go ahead, pour some ginger beer in your whiskey. Let us know.

But anyway, wasn’t it only a few years ago that being discovered with a mistress was a political death sentence? Ah, the fine old days. I miss a little sense of decorum…

      1. Richard

Those “few years ago” must have been pre-Bill Clinton. It didn’t seem to exactly kill his political career. In fact, you could come up with all kinds of unique defenses like “Define ‘is’ “.

I’m curious how a germophobe like Trump would pick up a porn star. That’s like a being afraid of heights and taking up skydiving.

  3. Harry Harris

This stuff matters little, and Trav knows that. He just needs to resist the urge to get caught up in the superficial buzz.
